Shaquille Vance of Houston, MS was a multi-sport standout for Houston High School. Vance was injured during a football game on April 1, 2009. Fifteen days later, his leg was amputated above the knee. With the help of his orthopedic surgeon Dr. Nels Thorderson and his staff at North Mississippi Sports Medicine Clinic, Vance learned to run again after being fitted for a prosthetic. He won silver in the 200m in the 2012 London games, and will be competing in Rio during the upcoming paralympic games.
From all of us at North Mississippi Sports Medicine Clinic…Good Luck in Rio – Shaquille Vance!
Since second grade my passion has been basketball. I had never had serious injuries until the summer of 2016, when I pulled and strained muscles and ligaments in my left leg. I was so devastated that I would be missing the summer. Thanks to Dr. Gabe Rulewicz, he made sure that everything would be okay. His positive outlook and great personality made me feel sure I would have a complete recovery.
After I tore my ACL, I was referred to Dr. Rulewicz to have my surgery. He was very thorough and took his time explaining everything to me. The atmosphere at his office is amazing, and his nurse is the kindest woman I know. She always made sure I was comfortable and never let me leave without making me smile! Dr. Rulewicz doesn’t treat you like “just another patient,” he treats you as if you are one of his own! He’s very loving and caring and he even called himself to check on me after I had my surgery. He and his team encouraged me every step of the way and never once let doubt creep into my mind that I wouldn’t get better. Dr. Rulewicz and his staff helped me so much and I would recommend him to anyone!
Flipping out, they Assured me they could get me down the isle. I could start naming names but these are not individuals, they are a team. I cried, they found humor for mean made me smile.
